CENTRAL HOUSE

Description

The historic Hoa Lo Prison in Hanoi was originally located in a village specializing in the manufacture of earthenware pots and pans. Built by the French in 1896, it was initially called the “Central Prison” and was intended to suppress resistance to colonialism. It also served as a detention center for American pilots during the Vietnam War. In 1993, part of the prison was converted into a hotel and office complex, while another part became a historical memorial.
